Sodium Bicarbonate

http://www.livestrong.com/article/128143-sodium-bicarbonate/

Uses

Because it has the ability to neutralize stomach acid, sodium bicarbonate is an effective home remedy for heartburn and indigestion. It may be combined with other medications to reduce symptoms of peptic ulcers. In the treatment of serious acid or base imbalances, sodium bicarbonate may be administered to reverse such conditions as diabetic acidosis, the side effects of chemotherapy, shock, severe dehydration, uncontrolled kidney failure and cardiac arrest.

Side Effects

While sodium bicarbonate rarely has side effects when taken as directed, large doses or prolonged treatment of more than two weeks can lead to unwanted effects, including nausea and vomiting. Stop taking sodium bicarbonate and notify a healthcare professional if such symptoms as headache, muscle pain or twitching, slow respirations, loss of appetite, fatigue, constipation, mood changes, dry mouth, excessive urination, increased thirst or swelling of the lower extremities occur.

Warnings

Sodium bicarbonate should not be given to children younger than 6 years old without the advice of a healthcare professional. Persons with high blood pressure, heart disease, liver or kidney problems should not use sodium bicarbonate. Other contraindications include appendicitis, intestinal or rectal bleeding and swelling from water retention, because these conditions could be made worse. To avoid interference with the absorption of some therapies, bicarb should be taken an hour before or two hours after other medications. Possible drug interactions could occur with antacids, oral antifungal treatments and tetracycline-base antibiotics.

Misconceptions

Cancer treatment with sodium bicarbonate is not evidence-based and could be dangerous. Proponents of this approach assert that malignancy is a body response to fungal overgrowth, such as systemic candida infection, though tumor biopsies have not shown the presence of such organisms. No studies have ever linked fungal infections to cancer growth in animals. There is no evidence that sodium bicarbonate is an effective treatment against candida or other systemic fungal infections. Cancer patients may develop candida infections as a result of chemotherapy; however, these problems are treated with medications. Treatment of fungal infections has not been shown to reduce tumor size. According to the American Cancer Society, the baking soda cancer treatment originated with a doctor who, in 2003, lost his license to practice medicine in Italy.

Bicarb Soda & Reflux

Acid Reflux

According to Healthline.com, acid reflux also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease, is the backward flow of acidic stomach contents into the esophagus. Acid reflux is caused by a weak lower esophageal sphincter and hiatal hernia. The lower esophageal sphincter muscle prevents stomach acid from entering the esophagus. A hiatal hernia is a condition in which the upper part of the stomach rises above the diaphragm and protrudes into the chest. The diaphragm helps keep the LES closed so that when the stomach rises above the diaphragm, the esophagus is not protected from stomach

Bicarbonate of soda, better known as baking soda or sodium bicarbonate, has numerous uses--it's a cleaning agent, antacid, fire extinguisher and more. There also are interesting health benefits when you drink baking soda, which is alkaline, in water. Viruses and diseases such as colds, flu, cancer and even heart disease thrive in an acidic body, but cannot survive when your body is alkaline. The 2009 Journal of the American Society of Nephrology revealed a study of 134 patients with advanced kidney disease. Taking baking soda daily dramatically slowed down the progression of kidney disease, resulting in no need for dialysis.

To increase your body's pH, take 1/4 tsp. of baking soda dissolved in one-half glass of water on an empty stomach, once in the morning and again before bedtime. Acidity and alkalinity is measured by pH, which ranges from 0 to 14 with 7.0 being neutral; a pH above 7.0 is alkaline, and below 7.0 is acidic. Baking soda has the highest pH of 14. Create a healthy body by keeping your body's pH between 7.1 and 7.5.

Drink the baking soda and water solution at the very beginning of cold or flu symptoms, such as a runny nose or sneezing, to help kill the viruses. Keep your body alkaline by increasing fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet.

  • 3
If you're an athlete, swallow sodium bicarbonate supplements with water to buffer lactic acid buildup and improve your exercise performance. Ingest 0.3 g of sodium bicarbonate per 2.2 lb. of body weight, one to two hours before the event, drinking plenty of water.

  • 4
Drink a glass of water with a half lemon or lime squeezed into it twice daily if you are unable to take baking soda and water. Lemons and limes are acidic but become alkaline in your body, raising your alkalinity almost as well as baking soda.

The acidity you are feeling is NOT from too much stomach acid, but from rotting, putrefying food that is sitting in your stomach due to the LACK OF STOMACH ACID! The acid feeling is due to the lactic acid being thrown off by the rotting food. Taking bicarbonate of soda will neutralize the lactic acid and you will get rid of the acid feeling, but it will also neutralize the stomach acid and now you get the booby prize, bad health.

What is needed is to take Betaine HCL from a once living source and that will stop the acid indigestion within about 3 minutes and you will be digesting like your body was designed to do. The pancreas and liver produce bicarbonate to neutralize the acidic chyme as it goes into the small intestines, but if the pH in the stomach does not get low enough from good hydrochloric acid production, then as the chyme passes into the jejunum (upper small intestine), then calcium, magnesium, and zinc will not get absorbed.
